Learning Resources Program

Welcome to Calvary Learning Resources ~ sometimes referred to as the CLR!  We are an enrichment area of Calvary Day School and delight in joining the school in the phenomenal efforts of helping students think, learn, and live for Jesus Christ.

Believing that every student is “fearfully and wonderfully made,”, it is our pleasure and joy to come alongside students who may need to use the extra academic assistance that we offer within our resource area.  The CLR offers Orton-Gillingham language therapy, testing accommodations, and subject tutoring. Our staff is committed to excellence and, with expertise and compassion, strives to meet the needs of each student.  In each of these areas, we endeavor to point students toward the understanding that God is faithful to be their help as Psalm 121 reminds us, “…where does my help come from.  It comes from the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Calvary Day School offers the following academic support:

Orton-Gillingham Language Therapy

Students whose dyslexia has been documented by a psychologist may receive Orton-Gillingham language therapy. This therapy is provided four days per week during the school day. Students may participate after school as scheduling permits.

The fee for Orton-Gillingham language therapy is $6800 per school year, and the language therapy schedule operates on the school calendar. There is an additional $200 registration fee each year. The registration fee is due upon acceptance into the program. Students enrolled in language therapy receive testing accommodations for no additional charge. Testing accommodations include extended time, small-group, quiet setting, read-aloud and/or scribed testing if specified by the testing psychologist.

Testing Accommodations

Fee–based testing accommodations:  The fee-based testing accommodations include extended time, separate setting, read aloud, and/or scribe.  These are provided based on recommendations detailed in a current educational psychological report (within the last three years) from a psychologist.   Students will be monitored by trained proctors who will ensure an environment conducive to optimum assessment. Read-aloud and scribed testing will be done one-on-one with proctors for an additional fee. Every effort will be made for students to begin their testing during the time that their class is taking the test.  Students who enroll in this program will be able to take all their announced quizzes and tests, including standardized tests, in this environment.

Fees:

  • $1000/year for students who need extended time on tests and a small group setting.
  • An additional fee of $1000 per year is charged for students who need tests read aloud and/or a scribe ($2,000.00 total).
  • If accommodations are needed only for standardized testing and mid-term/final exams, the following fees will be charged:
  • In Middle School, $150 for Terra Nova 3 testing.
  • In High School, $150 each for Terra Nova or PSAT testing.
  • In High School, $150 per semester for exams.
  • AP exam accommodations, $10.00 per hour. This will be paid with exam fees each year.

Accommodation fees will be assessed at the beginning of the school year and are non-refundable.

Additional Accommodations

Classroom accommodations for students with documented learning needs are performed by classroom teachers. There is no additional fee for these services. These accommodations are based on current psychological evaluations (within the last 3 years).

Subject Tutoring

If a student needs or desires a private tutor in a specific subject, the Calvary Learning Resource coordinator will provide parents with information on availability of approved tutors and will assist in making the tutoring arrangements.

Subject tutoring can range from one to five sessions per week.  A session is 50 minutes if conducted during a study hall period within the Upper School, and all after school sessions are 60 minutes.  For Lower School students, subject tutoring sessions are held after school.

Subject tutoring is provided at a flat rate of $55 per session. Questions?  Contact Marsha Kunkel.
